In October, we shared that we have reviewed our budget for 2026, and in order for MKA to continue to have all the programmes and appropriate salaries…
We shared about how we could not have our yearly holiday club in Cape Town due to financial restraints, but we hope and pray, thanks to your generosity, this will not be the case for next year.
This is an incredibly exciting time for MKA as we hear each week of more children being reached and lives changed.
In Uganda, we work with over 300 schools reaching 80,000 children.
Our way of doing things in Uganda is very different to South Africa. There are not many government schools, and it is very common for individuals to set up schools which are privately funded. Uganda is a rural country with over 70% of people working in a family-owned farm, producing small amounts of crops which they sell at markets to sustain their living.
The growth MKA has experienced has come with new challenges.
One such challenge is a need we have for more sound systems in Uganda.
Staff travel to schools on motor bikes known as boda bodas, journeying through terrain a car would struggle to drive on. When they arrive, one staff member may teach over 600 children and until recently, they did this without even a microphone.
We have managed to buy two sound systems for two staff members, but would love to increase the purchase of sound systems so that more staff can have a microphone when they are teaching.
Imagine talking to 600 children, outside because there is no school hall, with no microphone! It’s challenging. MKA staff who have the sound systems say the difference it has made has been amazing; children listen better, their behaviour has improved and the children are able to remember the lessons better. They can answer more questions when asked about the previous weeks lesson.
